Intent
At St. Peter’s, the intent of our Geography education is a fully inclusive approach to inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people and help them to develop as responsible global and local citizens preparing them for their future. We intend to equip pupils with the experience of a broad and balanced knowledge of our world and about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. We intend to also develop their geographical skills and fieldwork in our local and wider area.
In EYFS children will learn about similarities and differences between themselves and others, and among families, communities and traditions, and talk about the features of their own immediate environment and how environments might vary from one another.
In Key Stage 1 children will develop a balance of skills and knowledge relating to their own locality, the United Kingdom and the world.
In Key Stage 2, children will develop their use of geographical knowledge, understanding and skills to enhance their locational and place knowledge by looking at a range of the world’s most significant human and physical features.
We make links between our Geography units and significant explorers to inspire children to see the opportunities available to them as geographers, making connections to living geography that concerns children’s lives, their future and the world.
